Why isn't my website getting any calls or leads?
Whether nobody sees the site or people see it and do not call, and the checks that tell you which.
Short answer: First find out which problem you have: nobody sees the site, or people see it and do not call. Search Console's Performance report shows how often your site appeared in Google results and how often people clicked,1 and your Google Business Profile's Performance report shows calls, website clicks and direction requests.2 If people arrive and do not call, check the basics: a phone number a visitor can tap, a first screen that says what you do and where, a page that loads quickly on a phone, reviews, and a number on your profile that is really yours.
How do I tell why my website gets no calls?
Start with two numbers. Search Console's Performance report for Search results shows four measures. Clicks are how many times a user clicked your site from Google Search results, impressions are how many times your site appeared, click-through rate is clicks divided by impressions, and average position is the average position of your topmost result. By default it shows the past three months, and the newest data can be preliminary and change over the next few hours.1
Your Google Business Profile has its own Performance report. Google lists calls, website clicks, direction requests, messages and more, and says only the measures that apply to your business appear. Calls need a phone number on the profile, and count how often people press the call button. Website clicks count how often people click the link to your site. Views count distinct visitors, once per person per day, and bookings count only when they are managed through a booking provider.2
If impressions and views are near zero, nobody is seeing you, and the fix is getting found. For a website that is missing from Google, see why doesn't my website show up in Google. If people click or view and no one calls, the page or the profile is the problem, and the checks below apply. Calls from your profile and calls from your website are counted in different places, so look at both before you decide.
Can people call you with one tap?
A tap-to-call link is an ordinary link whose address starts with tel:. The standard that defines it says the tel URI scheme describes resources identified by telephone numbers.3 On a phone, tapping such a link starts a call. If your number is plain text, a visitor has to remember it or copy it.
Every one of our Classic and Motion kits uses tap-to-call links and has no form, so the call is the path. In the first look of each of our 206 Classic kits, 1,145 of the 1,237 pages carry a tap-to-call link.4 In a light scan of the home pages of 11 web design sites in October 2026, 8 had a tap-to-call link, so 3 did not.5 No site is named. Check yours on a phone: tap the number and see whether a call starts.
Does the first screen say what you do and where?
Nielsen Norman Group's article from September 11, 2011 says users often leave web pages in 10 to 20 seconds, credits a clear value proposition with keeping visitors longer, and advises communicating your value proposition within 10 seconds.6 The article is old, and its advice is plain: say it at once.
For a local business that means your trade, your town or service area, your phone number and your hours, where a visitor sees them without scrolling. "Plumbing repairs in Floral Park. Call us." does more than a slogan. Our Plumber kit's home page opens with the heading "Plumbing repairs and installation in [Service Area]." and a Call [Phone] link, with the fields for your town and your number left for you to fill in.4
Is the page fast enough on a phone?
web.dev says a good page shows its largest content within 2.5 seconds of when the page starts loading.7 A visitor on a phone who waits longer may leave before the number appears. We cover how to measure it and what to change in why is my website slow on mobile.
Do you look trustworthy?
BrightLocal's Local Consumer Review Survey 2026, which asked 1,002 US adults, found 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses. About 31% will only use a business with 4.5 stars or more, 47% will not use one with fewer than 20 reviews, and 74% look for reviews from the last three months.8 If your profile has a handful of old reviews, a visitor who checks may decide against calling. For how to ask for more, see how to get more Google reviews. For why a profile is not showing at all, see why isn't my business showing up on Google. For whether a trade needs a site, see do plumbers and electricians need a website.
Is the phone number right and the same everywhere?
Google's guidelines say the number on your profile should connect to your individual business location, that a local number is preferred over a central call-center line whenever possible, that the number must be under the direct control of the business, and that premium phone numbers are not acceptable.9 If the number is wrong, or rings a place that does not answer, every view and every tap is wasted.
Use exactly the same business name, address and phone on your profile and on your website. Our kit guide tells you to, and so does the work of every local directory.
What should I fix first?
Measure. Look at Search Console's Performance report for the last three months, and at your profile's Performance report.1, 2 Write down impressions, clicks, views and calls.
Make the number a tap link, and put it at the top of every page.3
Rewrite the first screen: trade, place, phone, hours.6
Check the site on a phone and time it.7
Check the number, hours and website link on your profile.9
Ask every customer for a review, the same way, after each job.8
Check again in a month. Fix one thing at a time so you can see what changed.
How long should I wait before I judge a change?
Give Google time to see a new site first. Search Console help says a new page or site may not have been crawled or indexed yet, that it typically takes anywhere from a day or two to a few weeks, and to allow at least a week after a sitemap or an indexing request before deciding something is wrong.10 Then give the numbers time to move. The Performance report defaults to three months, and your profile's search data is updated at the start of each month and might take up to 5 days to show up.1, 2
So change one thing, wait a few weeks, and look at the same two reports again. If clicks and views rise and calls do not, the page is the problem. If they do not rise, the problem is getting found.
How did we get these facts?
Every outside fact comes from the page named in the sources, read on October 21, 2026, and each source shows its own date. Nielsen Norman Group's article is from 2011 and the telephone standard is from 2004, so we say so. The kit facts come from a check of our own kit files, and the web design site count is from a light scan on October 16, 2026, with no site named. Nobody can promise calls, and neither do we. We sell website kits and help businesses with their sites, so we have a stake in this question. A few kits to look at: Plumber, Electrician and Cleaning service. The whole list is at website kits.
Questions

What is a tap-to-call link?
A link whose address starts with tel:. The standard that defines the tel URI scheme says it describes resources identified by telephone numbers.3
How long do visitors give a page?
Nielsen Norman Group, in an article from September 11, 2011, says users often leave web pages in 10 to 20 seconds, and advises communicating your value proposition within 10 seconds.6

Use Search Console's Performance report. It shows impressions, which are how many times your site appeared in Search results, and clicks, which are how many times a user clicked your site from them. It shows the past three months by default.1
Why do I get calls from my profile but not my website?
Google counts calls, website clicks and direction requests as separate measures on your profile, so look at each. A visitor who finds your number on the profile has no reason to open the site.2
Does a contact form get more leads than a phone number?
We have not found a source that shows it for local service businesses. Our Classic and Motion kits use tap-to-call links and have no form.4
